The flower shop is at the edge of the Stradt Park. So many flowers and fruits I don't know, bright colors. I am glad I take photos for them. Maybe we can identify them. :)

Aaah, now the server works, ok, lets go :)
For the flowers are 'exotic' or breeds I don't know all the species, but at least I identified the genus:
1. The purple kind of thistle
... is Cynara spec.
Maybe you have already eaten a very similar one? Cynara scolymus, Artichoke![
Yes, it is closely related to dandelion :), Asteraceae 菊科
2. Hm, this one is more difficult. I would guess (very carefully) that it is related to Nigella spec.(黑种草?
4. Like a lantern: Protea cynaroides 蓟花山龙眼, Proteaceae 山龙眼科
Protea
5. Green and orange fruits:
Physalis alkekengi [金灯笼 interesting, the chinese name is Golden Lantern], it's got a nice English name: Chinese Lantern
Denise's Physalis painting
Similar: Physalis peruviana , Cape Goosberry.[都是秘鲁酸浆〕 The fruits taste very good. It comes from South America, like many other plants from the family of Nightshades 龙葵(Solanaceae 茄科 ): Potato, Tomato etc.
physalis peruviana
physalis peruviana,FRUITS FROM AMERICA
7. 'Cherry or berry?'
Viburnum spec.
click see big picture
Shrubs and ground covers
8. The blue flowers: Agapanthus 百子莲, African Lily
It reminds me of a friend from university, her name is Liliana, called Lily ;)
10. Not Spirea: Leucospermum 针垫花,珍殿花?, also from Proteaceae 山龙眼科
[this one I got a photo in ShenZhen by someone, on exhibition.
Thanx to the tasty Chianti wine I am not able to go on today @)
I will add some more informations tomorrow :)

Nice, now I've know much more. :)
I search the Chinese name for them, and added in.
Em, I never taste Artichoke... Seems it is French style food?
Have a nice weekend with Chianti wine!
I will go Da Lian next two weeks. Hope it snows there. It's cold there, -10c. Otherwise not much to see, too cold to go arround.

I am revived now, thanks to Sebastian who has prepared freshly squeezed orange juice and wonderful shui hsien tea for breakfast :))
Speaking of shui hsien: our shui hsien flowers are blossoming, Sebastian took a photo of them.
Artichoke: We were talking about it that night in the Italian restaurant in Heidelberg. Someone - I guess it was Kat, or was it you? - had pizza with artichoke hearts and asked what this was. They usually are pickled and taste slightly sour.
Here you find a picture of a pizza with artichoke hearts:
Annotation to Viburnum (7): The fruits are rather cherry than berry - they have a stone inside. It is similar (and closely related) to Sambucus 接骨木属, e.g. Red Elder (Sambucus racemosa 接骨木), of which you have taken photos in blackforest.
[Em, now I see, this picture.
6. meat ball ;p - any Asteraceae breed, maybe a flipped Zinnia 百日菊 or something like that
Zinnia
9., 12. and 13. - I've got no idea.
The white flowers in 12 remind me of Allium (see 14; 6 petals!), but could also be something totally different.
14. I think the yellow are Allium spec. 葱属, like this pink one:
allium
Similar to other Allium species like onion 洋葱(Allium cepa), garlic 蒜(Allium
sativa) and chives 细香葱(Allium schoenoprasum)
Allium schoenoprasum
15. Yes, I also guess it is Chrysanthemum, Asteraceae.
16. The flowers and leafs look similar to sesame, maybe it is another genus/species of the family Pedaliaceae.
I wish you nice snow for the next two weeks :)

第三天,语调速度基本机械,开始完全脱离了自己的说话习惯,这时开始认识到当初Hanno上课干吗老是语调平平地说before the end of the world, what what job is finished,这完全是出于机械和疲劳。

Let me translate some information.
草草 said, the Golden Lantern is called Ghost Lantern in Japan. In Tokyo, there's market specialized in this Ghost Lantern.
And she also said, the painting for it is so beautiful. :)
Both 草草 and 紫桔梗 identify 9, it is Eustoma (Prairie Gentian). In Japan, it is called Turkey Balloom Flower, is it the origin?
Thanks for translation :)
Eustoma: Good to know it's Gentianaceae, know I see the resemblance. Somehow reminds me of Centaury 矢车菊(Centaurium erythraea)
Centaurium erythraea
Eustoma seems to be native to the USA, not Turkey.
This drawing of Physalis peruviana, Cape goosberry, really is great (unfortunately no signature or copyright - unknown artist!). My Physalis alkekengi (Chinese lantern) drawing is less vivid and detailed - I've made it 9 years ago and I hope my skills have improved since then ;) But I like the colours of the fruit, how they change from orange to green.

So, I've tasted artichoke. :p
Yes, it is Kat's pizza. And she gave each of us a piece to share. And I am sorry I forget the taste, I was so full then. I remember sebastian and you explained this artichoke to us. And I thought, ok, it's something, to eat. :)))
This is just like the famous story of General Pig in our ancient novel about the Fellowship of Monk Tang (or the Adventure to the West, that is India, to get Budha's saint book, the novel comparable with the Story of Three Kingkoms. General Pig swallowed a very precious holly fruit (fruit only every millions years), so quick, and asked 'What is the taste?' :)
When I mapping Centaury with Chinese 矢车菊, it calls up my memory of the first line of the Daughter of Sea by Andersen. Of course it's Chinese translation, but so beautiful.
'In the far far away sea, water is so blue, as blue as the bluest Centaury. At the same time, it is so deep. With thousands church towers chained one after another, you still can't reach the surface.'
No, it's my ugly word to word mapping from Chinese version. :)

No, no, not ugly at all :) I like your part of the thousand church towers chained one after another. In fact I think there is more melody in your translation than in the English translation I found in the web:
'Far out in the ocean, where the water is as blue as the prettiest cornflower, and as clear as crystal, it is very, very deep; so deep, indeed, that no cable could fathom it: many church steeples, piled one upon another, would not reach from the ground beneath to the surface of the water above.'
Ah, and the original Danish version looks like that:
"Den lille Havfrue
Langt ude i Havet er Vandet saa blaat, som Bladene paa den deiligste Kornblomst og saa klart, som den reneste Glas, men det er meget dybt, dybere end noget Ankertoug naaer, mange Kirketaarne maatte stilles ovenpaa hinanden, for at række fra Bunden op over Vandet."
(lille = little; frue = women; Havet = the sea; Vandet = the water; blaat = blue, dybt = deep, mange Kirketaarne = many churchtowers...)
I can tell you, Danish sounds strange! ;p Reading it isn't so difficult for us, but it sounds so different. The (French) husband of the Danish queen once said: Danish isn't a language - it is a throat desease.
As you see, the flower HC Andersen is talking about is not centaury, Centaurium erythraea, Gentianaceae, which is pink (erythraea is derived from the Greek word erythr-, red) but cornflower, Centaurea cyanus, Asteraceae.
In this German photo community I saw several remarkable photos of it:
photo commnutity
Maybe this flower is also common or known in China? If not I can add some information about it later.
Physalis: Ghost lantern, hmm ... also an illustrative name. The decayed fruit shell ressembles a fragile skeleton. A large picture is here:
Or here, a smaller picture (in the middle of the page, row 12):
Bilder Blumen
Hehe, stupid General Pig :) could have been a model for the pig in the web comic 'sinfest' (http://sinfest.net/)
Luckily artichoke isn't a rare fruit but a very popular flower in South European food

Insteresting enough, when I check more, I find out, both centaury and cornflower are mapping to 矢车菊
Maybe they are both kind of exotic, and as cornflower is Centaurea cyanus, somebody takes it as the same....

The story beginning impressed me a lot. It is very beautiful, as if I can see the image of those church towers streching upwards in the dark blue sea water, a bean of sun light shinning down.
In my brain, I even have the tone of the story teller - the first paragraph is just a calm, kind, patient and interesting introduce - he thinks just the same way a child can understand, and he loves it.
The other part so wonderful is about the fish, he said the people at sea bottom, when open up a window, fishs flying in, just like when we open a window on ground, the birds coming.
This part is also breath taking...
Actually for us, it is not a problem to think of a palace in sea bottom. Because our Dragon King in charge of water/rain/sea affair is living there for sure. And each sea has a Dragon King with palace. There are peals and glorious things there.
But nobody talk about the fish like birds or how it looks like when they look upward... so good.
But the part for cornflower is quite complicated in my brain. Well, I don't know what it is. So I automatically map it with a common blue Asteraceae in green fields. It is small and nice. The only problem is, it is light blue. Ah, so what is the water as blue as a cornflower? I painted it heavier in brain, somewhere it will be a very blue one. It is a complicated way to 'just like the prettiest cornflower'. :)
The pictures are real lantern, with a red core inside!
Now I can see why it is 'gloden lantern', or 'ghost lantern'.

a note on taking pictures of blue and violet flowers.
digital cameras use a certain colour space, that is based on the observation that for the human eye, all colours can be synthesized using "prime colours" red, green and blue.
while this is basically correct, there is one thing to keep in mind: the human eye's colour reception for the red colour will also be triggered by violet light. this effect is substantial for the colour violet's appearing - it is a mix of a lot of blue with a little bit of red.
now, digital cameras in most (if not all) cases do NOT use this approach for violet. violet light will NOT trigger the red-sensitive photo cells. as a result, pure violet light will appear BLUE in digital photography. (see: rainbow)
but for te color of plants, there are two different kinds of violet: those ones that are really violet (most light coming from the matter is in the violet part of the spectre), and the other ones, where the light is actually a mix of red and blue light.
both appear violet to the eye, but the digital camera will show the first type blue, and the second type violet!
how is this related to the actual topic?
well, let me put it simply: you need to personally see a cornflower to know the colour. only high quality classical (photography) quality has a chance to transport this impression.
because the blue color of corn flowers is difficult to reproduce, even for chemical photography!
this means: you need to come back to europe, and we go find some corn flowers to show you.
many kind regards from sebastian

haha, interesting!
I have an impression that blue flowers are rarely to see in China but it's so easy to find in other countries. Blue flowers r usually mix the colour with some red so it looks with a shade of purple. I haven't get any flowers with pure blue.
I had a luck to pick some cornflowers in the field last fall. The delicate shape and strange colour amazed me. It's blue, but prone to some bits of lilac. I collected them till it became dry, the colour disappeared gradually from the petal tips to the hearts, and winter came...
I checked the book and know it's what you r talking, cornflower. The book says this flower is the country flower of Germany, it represents German Royalty.

That's why!

german royalty???? (i got a problem to understand this term...)
ah i see you refer to ancient symbols. actually there were several different kingdoms. so it would be interesting to know which one the book meant...
there also is a colour named "king's blue", but that is a bit different.
but you are right, the colour of cornflower is deep deep blue, just at the border to violet.
(purple is - to my understanding, much more red)
