大连极地动物馆

　　周六滂沱大雨，但大家都到楼下集合了，最后决定去室内活动，老虎滩极地动物馆。
　　动物们好玩极了。首先是白鲸和海豚表演，好看，鼓掌都来不及，没拍。保持低温的大水箱里，白鲸、海豹、海狗，海獭们个个都是标准的流线体型，游起来神龙见首不见尾，无比轻松迅速，我忍不住为它们感到难过：这地方怎么也太小啦，闷在这里，根本都不够施展身手啊。

　　Heavy rain on Saturday, so we went to Polar Aquarium at Tiger Beach, Dalian. The animals are so cool. Recommendation.

　　
鱼很难拍，它们都游来游去，水族馆里光线又暗。所以，虽然这条黄条纹鱼其实挺平常，但好歹人家停在箱底不动，好拍得很。

Well, this yellow strip fish is nothing special comparing with all other fantastic ones, but he's resting at the bottom, a perfect modle, I like it. Swimming fish is just too hard to catch in camera in the dim aquarium.

　　
这条鱼我也很喜欢，虽然它长得傻乎乎的，但它停在水里半空中一动不动，还把脸冲外看着我，特写。其实所谓静止半空是挺牛的，它也摆摆侧鳍什么的，因为随水波晃荡是简单的，这样反而麻烦，比如直升机也是挺牛的。

Sand eel. So strange, look it's string like body and the eyes on head.

　　
这张才说明它们为什么古怪，它们都埋在沙子里，身子从沙里钻出来，一会伸长，一会缩回去，东张西望，看上去可奇怪了。

The most incredible thing is, they hide rest of body inside of sand, pull out longer body sometimes, and draw back into sands again. So it's so weid to see a half bury rope thing out and in, turns their long heads arround with the water wave.

游泳的企鹅，它的毛可真是好，外面一层油，滴水不粘。搞笑的是边上的帝王企鹅格子，空的，上面挂个牌子：帝王企鹅去体检了

Penguin in swimming, the suit is real water-proof.
His neighbour is King Penguin, the funny thing is, the tank is empty with a notice: King Penguin, medical check leave.

I like the two big polar bears most, they play with each other so happily.

　　
它们在水下的大屁股，胖脚掌可好玩了，毛全蓬起来，又白又光泽。嗯，它们的脚掌底非常厚实，黑的，看上去非常强壮。

Their bodies under water is more funny, fluffy, beautiful white fur. Black palms extremely strong.

　　Hey, some more marine biology! That's great. If I ever come to Dalian I'm going to visit the Polar Aquarium.
　　The fluffy polar bear is so nice :)
　　Maybe King Pen-guin is a doctor: he's out to check the sand eel, who's got a sore throat ;-)

　　O yes, there is doctor fish. A kind of small fish that always clean up big fish mouth (mouth? my god. I must have remembered it wrongly), skin or something. The lady introduce a lot about it to us. But for me the little fish looks just the same as all fish and keeps moving. So no photo for it.
　　
　　Well, you eat shark? So, it is not only Chinese eat shark's fin... Not just we Chinese are blamed by animal protection union now. :D
　　I think fish with bright colors can't taste good, and according to my knowledge from coral hall later, fish with bright colors is always poisonous, just like mushroom. And for fat polar animals, see, a lot of fat.. ;) And you don't like jelly fish... so maybe sand eel?

　　Yes, we eat shark - shame on us :-( Dogfish (Squalus acanthias) is the most common shark, nevertheless it is endangered and we shouldn't eat it, I know that. 'Schillerlocken' - Curls of Schiller (the German poet), smoked strips of the belly - are quite expensive, and we buy it very seldom. But when Sebastian and I go to the market together and see the fish booth, we sometimes can't resist the temptation ;-)
　　
　　You have remembered it correctly: doctor fish is cleaning the mouth of other fish. The big fish won't eat the doctor fish, they need the cleaning to prevent illness.
　　The bright colour indeed is a signal for poisonousness - of fish, snakes, insects, frogs, etc. But some species have only the signal, without poison - they are only cheating.

　　how do the fish know the doctor fish is good for them? Fish mom talks to baby, 'dear, doctor fish is our strategic partner'? Or they taste nasty? Or the big fish is under god's test, wise for long term benefit is fighting hard with strong desire to bite a tasty food, 'to eat or not to eat, that's a problem'?

　　Oh sorry, I mixed up Doctorfish and Cleaner fish: Doctorfish (Acanthurus) are the colourful fish swimming in swarms in coral reefs.
　　
　　Cleaner fish (Labroides dimidiatus) clean mouth and skin of bigger fish living on the sea bottom.
　　
　　I guess the big fish simply know the habit of cleaner fish, same as animals know the habit of predators or prey. The hungry cleaner fish wait for their clients. The clients turn themselves to a certain angle, spread their fins and gill covers and open their mouth as a signal for cleaner fish to start cleaning.
　　If a predator is coming, the big fish suddenly closes the mouth and opens it again immediately. This is a signal for the cleaner fish to hurry up and swim away.
